A starving young boy eats a human toe that he finds in the ground. Later that night, something dead comes to his bedroom wanting its toe back.

 

Toe is a pretty cool and atmospheric stop-motion animation horror short. It’s based on one of the Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark stories which is called The Big Toe (which was also referenced in the movie Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark).

A grieving young boy who loves to draw and build ferris wheels encounters strange creatures that turn his life upside down.

 

La Noria is a CG animated horror short by seasoned animator Carlos Baena (Pixar). This horror/fantasy short is in many ways more sad and emotional than scary, but does manage to build a certain creepy atmosphere with the monsters chasing the boy and the gloomy house he’s living in.

A shipwrecked fisherman is led to a dark secret within this short animated thriller.

 

GEIST is a CGI animated horror/thriller short, that builds up a ton of suspense and atmosphere, and the animation provides amazing visuals. While the “twist” is somewhat predictable, it’s still a pretty thrilling and quite emotional short.

“Looking Glass” (original title “Spegelbarn”) is a suspenseful and atmospheric horror animation. It’s a dark and unsettling short, with an art style that fits the concept pretty well.

ALMA – animated horror short

Alma, a little girl, skips through the snow-covered streets of a small town. Her attention is caught by a strange doll in an antique toy shop window. Fascinated, Alma decides to enter.

 

“Alma” is a CGI animated horror short by Rodrigo Blaas, which tells us a simple yet creepy tale. In the world of animation, Rodrigo is a familiar name as he’s been involved in several animated classics (as an animator for Ice Age, Ratatouille, Wall-E, Up and more, and also as a director for some episodes of Guillermo del Toro’s animated series “Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia”). This little short goes to show that all kinds of animation, even if it’s “cute”, can be quite creepy…
