No one is “right in the head” after coming back from war, there will always be wounds and scars both internal and external that will never heal. Robbie, though, has brought something more than just PTSD back home with him…

Suspenseful and creepy, this horror short is well worth a watch!

Another Horror Short Sunday again, and today we travel yet again into some cosmic horror territory with From.Beyond by Fredrik S. Hana, the same director behind Autumn Harvest and Sister Hell. This one is much more experimental, and the director himself stated that “I wanted to make something that captured a particular sense of wonder I experienced a lot as a child. A time where the Patterson–Gimlin footage of Bigfoot caused many sleepless nights, and just the thought of space and U.F.O’s filled me with a strange feeling of limitless possibilities. This feeling is rooted in a fascination for the unknown, sprinkled with existential dread and ambiguity, and has been a big source of inspiration to me. I try to stay connected with these emotions in my work, but I never had the chance to truly explore them until now“. And the result is a bizarre and nightmarish analog horror short!

On this Horror Short Sunday, we’ve taken a look at Alien: Monday, which is an impressive animated horror short made by Paul Johnson aka OtaKing, animated over a period of six years and co-directed by Claudia “Maki” Montealegre. It’s a tribute to both Ridley Scott’s Alien and classic 80s anime alike. Gotta love the retro style animation and the attention to detail in this!

It’s Horror Short Sunday again, and today we travel into some Lovecraftian territory with Autumn Harvest. This Norwegian horror short was made by Fredrik S. Hana, the same director behind Sister Hell. While the aforementioned horror short was trippy, funny and colorful, this one is in black and white with a gloomy atmosphere and Lovecraftian elements. A sailor, devastated by grief, is about to end it all when something from the sea offers him a way to get back what he’s lost. Of course, this comes with a price…

When mother superior and the other servants of the lord tries to stop her and punish her for her sins, the devil himself comes to save the day and brings along his fiddle and his accordion as well! UNCANNY ALLEY 02: THE NIGHT SHIFT – ANIMATED HORROR SHORT

A late-night janitor gets a strange visitor when cleaning in the swimming pool area.

 

For this week’s Horror Short Sunday, we take a look at the animated horror short The Night Shift, which is the second episode of the animated series Uncanny Alley shown on Adult Swim. It’s created by Rodrigo Goulão de Sousa, who is an animator based in France. The episodes are all horror themed, with surreal and often bizarre elements mixed into the creepiness. This episode starts off with a seemingly “ordinary” supernatural event: a bleeding crooked ghost walks by, leaving stains of blood all over the floor. At this point, the janitor seems more downhearted by the fact that he’s got to clean it up, rather than showing any fear over seeing an actual ghost…but then, the ghost starts gibbering some kind of nonsense and we’re suddenly thrown into a surreal, bizarre lovecraftian world of some kind. Certainly worth a watch and all the episodes are available on Adult Swim’s YouTube channel.

RED GLOVES – Horror Short

In 1980s NYC, a young dancer at the top of her class is stalked during a lonely night of rehearsing by a shadowy figure wearing red gloves.

 

Horror Short Sunday is here again, and this time we’ve seen Red Gloves from 2023, directed by Santiago Saba Salem and written by Santiago Saba Salem and Drew Maxwell Weiss. We’re in the 1980’s, and some dancers in NYC are rehearsing. One of them stays alone in order to keep practicing, and of course, someone’s out to get her! Someone we can’t fully see except from noticing them wearing red gloves in typical giallo-style (well, the usual style is black gloves, but everyone’s got their own fashion preferences). It’s impossible to not notice the apparent Suspiria-vibes in this one, and it’s like a love letter to both the aforementioned film and the giallo genre.

When Hollywood mega-star Cooper Bradley goes to a special-effects lab in Atlanta to get his head molded for his latest film, all hell breaks loose. Not only must he try to escape from this freakish funhouse of props and make-up, but in the process he must retrieve his very soul, which the VFX master has stolen.

 

For this Horror Short Sunday, we’ve decided to present Good Head from 2021, being shown on Alter. It’s written and directed by Matt Servitto, who also plays the role as the Hollywood star who ends up having a not so pleasant experience in a special effects lab. It’s fun and energetic, with comedy moments that are both crazy and freakish. Imagine having to fight with Jackie Chan’s hands, the butt of Meryl Streep and seeing Jennifer Lopez’s leg hop around? Yep, all of that actually happens here. It’s Voodoo, baby!

This time, we take a look at Occupant which is a horror short that starts with a man’s mundane, everyday life: he’s putting his daughter to bed, and tells her a good-night story. Then, after speaking briefly to his wife, he hears strange noises from outside and decides to go investigate. It’s very simple, yet effective enough to be both atmospheric and provide enough mystery to keep you guessing what will eventually happen!
