X– AAhh..AAAhhh, FUCK ma PUSSY! You make me so WEEEH…!!

 

The year is 1979 where the young 27-year-old Maxine (Mia Goth) snorts a big, fat line to get ready for another day in the porn biz. She wants to be famous and no one can blame her for being a runaway daughter of a Kenneth Copeland-like televangelist. We’re in hot n’ sticky Texas where she and a small film crew are driving to the middle of Leatherface land to shoot their next porn flick titled “The Farmer’s Daughters”. No hitchhiker to spot here, just to mention, their trip goes as smoothly as a stiff, slippery cock sliding into a freshly-shaved vagina. They drive by a nasty and gory accident scene, though, where a poor cow has been sliced in two after a clash with a truck that makes Maxine throw up in the car. Welcome to Texas, even though it’s all filmed in Queenstown, New Zealand.

 

Our crew is the producer and Maxine’s boyfriend Wayne (Martin Henderson), RJ (Owen Campbell) is the director, his girlfriend, Lorraine, (Jenna Ortega) is the one holding the dick… sorry, the mick, and she’s the youngest on the crew. She’s shy and doesn’t say much, but you can bet she has a horny little beast hidden in her shell, just waiting to get unleashed. We also have Maxine’s two co-actors, the BBC Jackson (Kid Cudi) and the blonde chick Bobby-Lynn (Brittany Snow).

 

Their destination is an old farm owned by the old, miserable and one-foot-in-the-grave couple, Howard and Pearl, who are way past their glory hole days. The natural circle that we call life is harsh and brutal and is not for everybody to embrace gracefully. Howard is a goblin-and bedbug-bitten-looking gentleman who’s agreed to rent out a guesthouse to the crew as long they mind their own business and stay away from the main house. Pearl, who looks like the witch from Pumpkinhead, is quick to get her old, half-dead eyes lazer-focused on Maxine. Because she reminds her of her younger self, and gets jealous of her youth. And Howard is too afraid to have a heart attack if he tries to sexually please her. I think they would both have a heart attack, to be honest. But it’s worth a try, because what is there to lose at this point. Pearl is also played by Mia Goth, hidden by a thick layer of convincing old-age makeup.

 

Anyway, Pearl gets more drawn to her in some creepy, obsessive way and starts mirroring her like a true, deranged narcissist. Some may sympathize with Pearl, but I don’t. I know the kind too well. And….well, I think I’ve said enough about the plot.

 

The film takes its time to build up the more and more eerie mood and atmosphere, and the uncertainty of where the plot is actually going. After the quick flashback in the opening scene (which I forgot to mention) where the local cops find a horrific murder scene in the farm basement, we have a foreshadowing tone from the start that slowly builds up. So, this is not your typical fast-paced teen-slasher, in other words. It’s after the first hour mark that the horror elements really start to kick in, and it goes full slasher-mode from there on.

 

Our small group of actors does a solid job with their roles and have great chemistry. They’re also likable and well-written, which is a big plus since we spend a lot of time with them. It was also somewhat peculiar to see Jenna Ortega in a far more pure and innocent role (until she isn’t) after watching the first season of Wednesday. Mia Goth is, of course, the big star here as the rebellious young Maxine who just wants to be famous and prove her dad a thing or two. She’s at her best, if not intense, when playing the old, fragile and unhinged Pearl, where it’s hard to at least not feel some pity for her.

 

There isn’t too much to say about X without tipping the toes too far into spoiler territory – but overall, X is a rough and decent 1970s-sexploitation throwback flick with some gnarly, brutal kills and raunchy soft-core nudeness – and not least with a unique angle on the slasher genre. Ti West knows his stuff when it comes to the visual aesthetics from that era, which he also nailed in The House of the Devil (2009). The film should have gone full-out hardcore with the sex scenes, though, so it could’ve gone full circle with an actual X-rating. That would have been fun.

 

X followed up with the sequels XX and XXX and can be found after some quick searches on PornHub. Har-har, just kidding. Watch out for Pearl and the recent MaXXXine.

Breaking Point (1975)

The Green SlimeThe Swedish filmmaker Bo Arne Vibenius got some sweet taste of success and fame after his ultra violent rape/revenge film and magnum opus Thriller: A Cruel Picture became a hit at the Cannes Film Festival in 1974. One year later it was time for his next film, which was originally supposed to be a far more clean and commercial film for the mainstream surface audiences.

 

But something went wrong, you see. Horribly wrong.

 

Some sources say that it was issues with the financial part that forced Vibenius to take some quick and drastic decisions. Instead of cancelling the film entirely, he rewrote the script in two days and started shooting on day three with a handheld camera around the Stockholm area. The result is Breaking Point – a spiteful, mean-spirited, bleak as bleak can be, anti-commercial, morbidly hilarious and utterly mentally deranged little sexploitation flick which makes Thriller look like a sunny day in Disneyland. All shot in English dialogue with Swedish subtitles, just in case the film wouldn’t get banned in its home country, which it of course did. Hur tråkigt.

 

The film centers around a middle-aged man, Bob Bellings, who looks like a cross between Peter Sellers and Ryan Gosling, where anyone with eyesight can spot his big red flags waving miles away. He’s a working stiff wearing a suit and tie at an office in a high rise building in the middle of the city, where his days consist of stamping documents. Another thing that’s stiff is his cock, and he has to stick it in someone and rather NOW before his ballsack explodes! When he’s not sitting around and fantasising about his female coworkers undressing in front of his desk or sucking his dick, he uses his free time to rape and murder women around the local area. When he can’t control his urges at work, he has the lunchtime to “do some errands”. The film starts with his first victim whom he stalks and assaults in her apartment. He smashes her skull with an ashtray and rapes her dead body.

 

Breaking Point

 

If this wasn’t bad enough, Belling then sees a psychologist on TV who has the brilliant theory that all women have a deep, inner desire to get raped, only if you don’t kill them. Alrighty then. Now that his actions feel way more morally righteous (for lack of a better term), it’s time to extend the horizon by buying a car and heading out to the countryside to hunt for more pussy to drill. His car plate has the letters CUW (yes, with a W) just to make it obvious in a sarcastic way that his psychotic journey into pure nihilistic perversion and beyond has just begun where no one on his destructive path is safe. All I can say is just get ready for a lot of absurdity, a lot of unpleasant hardcore fucking, oral sex, reckless driving and even some hints of – TRIGGER WARNING – pedophilia.

 

What Breaking Point and Thriller have in common is the authentic porn scenes. But this one goes overload, to put it that way. During Bob Belling’s hazy and dream-like odyssey we can also ask what’s real and if we’re just witnessing some deep, obsessive rape fantasies from the mind of a disturbed man. Not quite easy to tell. We can also ask if the raw, impulsive and overall chaotic nature of Breaking Point is a reflection of a very troubled and angry director who’s going through an epic storm of a mental collapse or a serious existential crisis while he goes all the way to self-sabotage his own film career. This was his last film, so in that case, he succeeded.

 

Andreas Bellis, who mainly works as a cinematographer, has his first and last main role as the killer/rapist Bob Bellings, here under the fitting pseudonym Anton Rotchild. With his thin hair, big glasses in front of his death-staring eyes, stone-cold face and of course the big mushroom for the ladies, he certainly looks the part which he seems to embrace every second with no problem, flashing his erect dick left and right and exposing himself in the explicit hardcore porn scenes. Even though the porn is as straight-forward as can be, the film is done with the most pitch-dark cynical sense of humor, with layers of satire and some social commentary where American Psycho meets Falling Dawn in a bushy glory hole. The ending is absolutely bonkers.

 

And speaking of pseudonyms: names such as Oscar Wilde, Adolf Deutch and Urban Hitler can be seen in the opening credit scene. Because why not …

 

Although Vibenius was confident enough to get Breaking Point screened at the Cannes Festival which turned out to be a complete disaster shitshow, he feels to this day very bitter about the film and wants no one to see it. Can I blame him? Maybe, maybe not. He went as far as to do his very best to erase the film entirely from its existence by stopping it from spreading on the bootleg market. So no, Breaking Point will never get a physical dick-release and is as obscure and rare like a snowball in hell. The only place to watch it online as for now is on porn sites. Have fun!

Nude for Satan (1974)

Nude for SatanDr. William Benson is driving late at night to reach a patient, and stops at a mansion to ask for directions. He learns that he must drive a huge detour and that the roads there are bad, and the man at the mansion offers him shelter for the night. As the conscientious doctor he is, he declines the offer and continues on. A lady in white suddenly stands in the way, and this forces Benson to swerve his car which makes it bump into a mountain wall. When he is going to check for the mysterious lady in white, she is nowhere to be to seen, but another lady suddenly crashes in front of him and lies unconscious in the car with a white blouse…which suddenly turns black in the next clip. Just five minutes in and a continuity error already. Impressive. Anyway, he carries her away and brings her back to consciousness by patting her on the cheek, like the doctor he is. But unfortunately he does not manage to start the car, and sees no other way than to return to the castle to ask for help. When he enters the castle the place looks abandoned, with trash, rats and covered furniture.

 

He then comes across an older guy who seems to have been stabbed to death, who glances at Benton with some crazy eyes as he asks “what can I do for you” and gives a sinister laugh. Okay, Dr. Benton, time to turn around, there’s no help to get here. Still, this is just a gentle start on the rabbit hole he has stumbled into. When he opens another door he witnesses someone who has a sex orgy with scenes of a blowjob, close-up penetration and lesbian sex. Okay. After seeing enough, he shuts the door and looks further around, and suddenly the woman pops up…the one he left in the car, with no signs of harm or discomfort. And she’s really happy to see Benson, as she rather calls Peter, as if she’s known him all her life, and gives some obscure lines that don’t make any sense. And just like the viewer, Mr. Benson is just as lost and confused and wants some fucking answers (pun intended).

 

As I said, a rabbit hole. And a hairy one. The movie actually starts out as a classic Hammer movie with thunder, rain and an old castle, but as soon as we see our protagonist, or whatever he is supposed to be, it quickly nosedives into a stumbling, incoherent obscurity of a demented sleazeball of a movie with x-rated porn scenes in between. The balance between horror and porn is completely off. It’s as if the writer and director Luigi Batzella couldn’t decide whether he wanted to make a traditional horror or a porn, but went for both with no clue how to blend it together, with a script that apparently was scribbled in a hurry on his palm between the shooting. With a title as “Nude for Satan” I expected a fair amount of tits and bushy beavers, but I was completely unaware this was actually a x-rated pornflick with close-up penetration and whatnot. But okay, what a pleasant surprise. So let’s just call it “Fuck for Satan”, then, to avoid further confusion.

 

Fuck for Satan is probably most known for a certain random spider scene. And I must say, it lived up to the hype. How can one not laugh at a fake, giant spider that seems to be made of a bunch of layers of cow dung? And to make it more realistic, just stuff some wooden branches into it and it got some really believable legs. Haha, oh my.. Fuck for Satan also has the most frantic use of zoom I’ve probably seen. As if the cameraman was clearly told to zoom in and out as much as possible to make  a desperate attempt to add some tone of surrealism or whatever. Well, I beg to differ. The movie isn’t trippy for one bit, just weird and messy with lazy directing, while the horror aspects fails as a blind, drunken sailor on an unicycle. And what does the space-like music have to do here? Is there a flying saucer wobbling from a string in the background somewhere I don’t see? Who knows. Who cares. But man, that spider scene..haha.
