A young woman Skyping with her long distance boyfriend late one night, realizes that an ancient evil presence may have been unleashed upon her.

 

Wicken is a horror short film by Faisal Hashmi, who also made Sleight. While Wicken could have benefited from more playtime to delve deeper into the mythology and story behind the curse, and thus bring the character’s emotions more into focus upon making their decisions, it’s still an effective albeit simple short.

Two girls are moving out after Sarah’s mother has passed away. In the clearing they exploit an old Polaroid camera possessed by a dark past.

 

Polaroid is a Norwegian horror short, directed by Lars Klevberg (who recently made a name for himself with the remake of Child’s Play). Polaroid was actually made into a full-feature film which was originally set to be released in 2017, but was delayed due to the Weinstein Company bankruptcy. Thus it was released in 2019 instead. This horror short, however, was made in 2015.

Goat Witch is an occult horror short with a fair amount of nudity, and even a bit of blood ‘n gore and a fitting score. The director, James Sizemore, previously made an indie-horror movie called The Demon’s Rook (2013), with himself in the leading role.

Thresher is a short that offers a little bit of inter-dimensional horror, where a man is locked inside a Victorian-styled room while trying to figure out a way to escape. Guillermo del Toro was the set designer for this short, and it was shot for the Guillermo del Toro & Legendary pictures House of Horrors competition.

The Dollmaker is a creepy and a little sad horror short about a couple that has lost their son. They’ve gotten in contact with a doll-maker that makes a doll by using a lock of the boy’s hair, clothes he’s used and something he valued, and promises the parents that they’ll be able to see their son again through the doll. Seeing the simple ragdoll they’re both sceptical…but upon touching it, they realize that magic really does happen. But spells tend to come with a set of rules…and if broken, there will be consequences.

How To Be Alone is a weird horror short starring Maika Monroe (It Follows) who struggles with being alone when her husband (played by Joe Keery from Stranger Things) is away working the night shift. She tries to get through the night by making plans and keeping herself occupied…but it’s just not that easy.
